Turriabla

This area is known best for its whitewater rafting, to lush coffee farms, to beautiful agricultural views, and the Volcan Turriabla

This is a quiet town, once was cut by the nation's railroad system.  Following an earthquake, the railway was shut down, but a highway was built.  Though that brought more and more visitors to Turribla, it remains a quiet area.  Travelers come from all places on the globe to raft the whitewater here and to visit the Turriabla Volcano.  Bird watchers and nature lovers should be able to get some noteworthy photos.  Travel east a little ways, and you will find the Centro Agronomico Investigacion y Ensenanza center, which has preserved approximately 1000 hectares used for both research and education.  Touring the gardens you will see a huge variety of birds.

Outside of town lies the Monumento Nacional Guayabo which is a major archaelogical site due to its past inhabitants from over 3000 years ago.  Though modest in comparison to other areas in Central and South America it is still a nice destination flourishing with wildlife.  The key points to this site are the extensive aqueduct built from large stones as well as the the fact that many of the ruins have never even been excavated!
