San Isidro is more commonly referred to as Perez Zeledón and is full of interesting local facts & fictions. Check them out here!
This is one of the most talked about towns in all of Costa Rica. Many times it is referred to by many men as a haven for lovely ladies.
Some of the most interesting (but not necessarily true) conceptions about the town are:
-You can win at the gas station raffle a refrigerator, new truck, 4 wheeler or YES A COW! (such an agricultural town).
- There is a giant white Christ statue overlooking the town which supposedly is believed to protect the towns people from harm.
-For every one male in their 90,000+ population there are at least 5 females
- Why are there more females than males? It is rumored that many years ago many male Perez Zeledonians moved to New Jersey for temporary work and NEVER returned.Hence, why New Jersey claims a population of around 40,000 "Ticos" the largest known colony of Costa Ricans in the US.
- To get to Perez you need to cross "Death Mountain Highway" (sounds much scarier than it really is).
- You can hike Chirripo mountain Costa Rica's highest points at an elevation 12,000 feet and can see both oceans on a clear day. Bring a jacket it gets very chilly on the mountain.
- Since the climate is so warm all the girls wear mini-skirts and tank tops year round
- The biggest local celebration each year is known as the EXPO, an annual event which shows off livestock, features carnival games, amuesment park rides, and offers a variety of nightlife in a Town Fair style atmosphere. This event is usually in Febuarury each year.
