La Fortuna/Arenal
The town of La Fortuna is based on the foothills of the Arenal Volcano and most of its establishments are tailored to tourism that the Volcano has attracted in large numbers for many decades now.
This is one of Costa Rica's most visited destinations due to the magnificent Arenal Volcano, which is said to be Central America's most active volcano. Natural hot springs, breathtaking views of volcanic eruptions and Lake Arenal, and swimming in natural pools beneath beautiful cascading waterfalls are only some of the natural highlights of this great location. Also for the adventurer are multiple canopy ziplines, incredible sky bridges through the forest, ATV adventures across the rugged terrain, and multiple nature and hiking trails. This a great destination for backpackers, seasoned adventurers, and tourists that are unfamiliar with the area. A very recently refurbished road system and newly constructed airport allows for convenient acccessibility. Lake Arenal is also popular among fresh water fishermen, water-skiers, and wind-surfers. The activities, infrastructure, and a large variety of accommodations in the area that fit all budgets make this an ideal destination for all types of travellers.
