Playa Herradura

Playa Herradura - Puntarenas - Costa Rica. If you've heard of Los Suenos Resort, you've heard of Playa Herradura. Herradura in Spanish means horse shoe and the beach is appropriately named so due to its horse shoe U shaped bay.

Also know as Bahia Herradura, Los Suenos, foreign investors, and Hollywood fame made this beach into what it is today. Before the filming of the movie “1492” starring Gerrard Depardieu, and the renowned Los Suenos Marriott Hotel was constructed, this was just a sleepy beach town like many others in Costa Rica. With the hotel, came a splurge of growth due to the harbor, proximity to San Jose and Jaco, and the influx of American Investors. Be prepared for the sights of major development. Cranes, partially contructed buildings, construction vehicles, and the bustle that goes with rapid growth. The downturn of the global, mainly American, economy has slowed this expansion though, hopefully only for a while.
